Here is a short film I wrote, directed and produced about a painter who befriends a balloon.

Poppinz

This is Poppinz. He came into my mind when I was itching to do some animation.

Admittedly, cell animation is much more my forte. But someone slipped some plasticine into my drink late one evening and I decided stop motion was something I had to try.

I began building Robotville out of cardboard boxes and dollhouse furniture from the dollar store. I built two sets, one being the main road in Robotville and the second being Poppinz's bedroom:





In the meantime, my super duper brother got down and dirty with some fimo and started creating our background actors [featured above].

Poppinz himself was built by first making a wire armature [the things you never thought you could do with a coat hanger], and baking layers of fimo on top. We filmed across three crazy deadline making days.

Thanks to Redbull, cigarettes, my brother's apartment, my brother, learning Avid the day of, and an unexplainable childhood dream to be an animator, Poppinz came to life.

I will never forget holding up a plastic ruler at 3 AM to try and remember how far we moved Poppinz... The insanity is still in our eyes.

This is the first page of a book that caught my attention:




Antic-ham is an independent publisher & illustrator based out of Seoul, Korea. I had the pleasure of meeting her at an independent publisher's fair in London, England a couple of years ago.

All of her work is diary based, and, being the hopeless romantic that I am, upon opening the first page to "Rendez-vous / He Said..." [pictured above], I was immediately captivated by Antic-ham's tale of love & separation... so much so that I decided to produce and direct a documentary short on her story.

Antic-ham met her partner in design at a book binding course in Korea. Since, Antic-ham and Fran have divided their days and work between Seoul and Ireland, capturing all of their adventures together by camera, and then either silk screening or collaging their works.

For me, it was an amazing experience to make the film. Fran & Ham are two people I can't speak highly enough of, and I will never forget my time in The Valley House pub after filming! I hope you enjoy their story. Watch here:
